Saint Clement Toy Drive
St. Clement’s Annual Toy Drive
Saint Clement parishioner Margaret Connor founded the Christmas toy drive in 1991, creating the nonprofit of HO HO HO. In its first toy drive, 50 families were served. Currently, over 1,000 children receive donations.
Families receive a special invitation to attend the Distribution Day in time to wrap their children’s gifts before the holidays. On Distribution Day, volunteers transform a local recreation center into a winter wonderland. The children are entertained with fun activities while the parents select the gifts. Volunteers are needed to sort and count the donations, escort families to select gifts, and do arts and crafts with the children.
HO HO HO continued to grow, expanding with new donation drives, including the Back-to-School Donation Drive. After many years, HO HO HO became Community Partners for Children; now Volunteer Alexandria coordinates the donation drives.
Each August, during the Back-to-school Donation Drive, school supplies and backpacks are collected for thousands of children in the Alexandria City Public Schools. The school supplies, generously donated by individuals, organizations, businesses, etc., are given to the school social workers, who then distribute to eligible students. Volunteers are needed to collect, sort, inventory, and distribute the school supply donations.
